The Holidays can be a joyous as well as a stressful time, filled with parties, family obligations and traveling. It can be hard to find the time to work out. All the holiday treats can challenge even the most disciplined person.

Fitness Tips

You don’t have to work out for hours and hours for exercise to have benefits. The Snowmass Village Recreation Center offers a variety of fitness classes check out our schedule here

Short on time?

To maintain your fitness or even to get in shape, try a 45 minute HIIT or Indoor Cycling Class. High intensity exercise raises the anaerobic threshold and creates excess post-exercise oxygen debt, in plain English that means that your metabolism stays elevated for longer after a high intensity workout (you burn more calories after the exercise) than after a low-intensity long duration workout.

Stressed out?

Try a Yoga class to start or end your day. Yoga can help reduce feelings of stress by lowering blood pressure and inducing feelings of calm.


Holiday Eating Tips: 

Getting through the holidays shouldn’t be about avoidance and restriction, it should be about enjoying yourself in a healthy way.

  1. Start the day off right, eat a solid breakfast with a healthy balance of protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates, for example, eggs, avocado, whole grain bread and some berries. 
  2. Indulge wisely, the key is balance, have small portions of your favorite dishes and pass on indulgences that you don’t really love. Fill half your plate with veggies or salad and the other half with goodies. 
  3. Don’t skip meals, this just makes you extra hungry and more apt to overindulge.
